Brazil Technology Network is a strategical program of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Its main objective is to foment an efficient link between different areas of the Federal Government, Brazilian Universities, private companies and financing agents. Its mission is to help the construction of a favourable environment to applicable research, technological development and capacity building of local productive sectors, thus promoting economical and social development in Brazil.

Specific Objectives

· To invigorate development of sectorial technology networks in the various states of the nation through implementation of the managerial model proposed by the Ministry of Science and Technology;

· To stimulate the creation of working groups that bring together the Government, companies and research centres with the objective of enhancing the national environment through actions such as:

(a) discussion of public policies and fomentation instruments;
(b) enhancement of knowledge exchange and competitive intelligence; (c) reduction of operational costs;
(d) augmentation of the companies’ competitiveness and local production arrangements;

· To make the technological development technically and economically viable through sharing and co-ordinating the dispersed resources amongst the national technological institutions and companies associated to the networks of the Brazil Technology Network;

· To promote the coordination and alignment of research and development initiatives in Brazil through (a) mutual visibility of material and human resources present in the network and (b) concrete orientation derived from the needs and opportunities associated with the competitive dynamics of the sectors and financial agents;

· To instigate companies to develop and use technological innovations as a competitive strategy through the economical and technological complementariness between them and universities/research centres;

· To qualify and equip local research centres, specially through the development of applicable research;

· To amplify the market possibilities for national companies, thus strengthening these companies, diversifying their businesses and generating social benefits to Brazil;

· To create qualified jobs in Brazil through the competitive substitution of goods and services importation in strategical sectors.
